Discover the wilderness and enjoy the amazing arctic nature and clean air during this special programme with visit of two Nordic Countries on the same tour: Lainio Vildmark in Vittangi, Swedish Lapland & Muonio in Finnish Lapland.
In Lainio you will do a 2-day snowmobile safari with overnight in a cozy wilderness camp, you go on a snowshoe tour and try your luck in ice-fishing on the famous Lainio river. In Muonio you will do a 3-day husky safari close to the Pallas-Ylläs National park. During the husky safari you will stay overnight in cozy wilderness cabins. The daily distances are between 25-50 km, depending on the weather conditions. The luggage will be transported in your own husky sledge. You take care of the dogs during the safari and help the guide in heating the sauna and preparing the meals.
Day 1 Arrival to Kittilä airport and transfer through wilderness roads to Lainio Vildmark in Vittangi, Sweden ( ca. 3 hours driving time). Lainio is a very small village located by Lainio river, where the road ends. This area is a mixture of three cultures: Swedish, Saami and Finnish. Also all three languages are spoken in this part of Sweden. Meet and greet your host. Information about coming activities and dinner. Accommodation in small log cabins for 2-4 persons.
Day 2 After breakfast your guide will give you the outdoor equipment for your stay in Lainio (safari overall, boots, hat, mittens, scarf). Today you will discover the snowcovered, silent nature on a snowshoe tour. Your guide will give you instructions and then you can go by your own in the nearby beautiful landscape. During the day you will also have a chance to try your ice-fishing skills. Ice-fishing is very popular hobby among the local people. Perhaps you will catch a pike, trout or whitefish? Your guide will show you first how to do it and then you can go on fishing. Lunch will be served in Lainio. Dinner and overnight. Optional sauna (not included in the rate).
Day 3 After breakfast it is time to get a taste of Arctic lifestyle and go for an overnight snowmobile safari. After driving instructions and safety demonstration you will start the snowmobile safari – two persons per snowmobile - towards the Samish village Viikusjärvi, where six sami people are living today. In Viikusjärvi you will see reindeer and a lunch. Then you continue the safari to the wilderness camp Markkasaari. The driving distance today is ca. 50 km. In the late afternoon arrival to the wildeness camp. Dinner and overnight in the camp.
Day 4 Breakfast in the camp and start of the snowmobile safari back to Lainio; the driving distance today is ca. 15 km. After arrival in Lainio you will have lunch in restaurant. After lunch free time. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Day 05 Early breakfast and check-out from your cabins. It is time to continue the journey to Finland and say good-bye to your host in Lainio. After ca. 2,5 driving time you will arrive to the husky kennel in Muonio. Meet and greet your guide and the charming siberian huskies. After getting the warm winter clothes (overalls, socks, warm boots, mittens, hat and sleeping bag) you will get information about the safari programme. You can leave the luggage, that you don´t need during the safari, in the kennel.
Your guide will give you the necessary driving and safety instructions before starting the safari. Everybody drives own husky team of 4-5 huskies. The route goes through the snow covered forests and over frozen lakes close to the Pallas-Ylläs National Park. During the safari you will stop for a picnic lunch by campfire. In the afternoon you will arrive to the wilderness cabin, where you stay overnight. The distance covered today is ca. 25-35 km. After arrival to the cabin you will help your guide to take care of the dogs, then you heat the sauna and prepare the dinner together. Overnight in the wilderness cabin.
Day 6 After breakfast you continue the safari in the beautiful winter landscape. The route will take you over the frozen lakes and swamps with amazing beautiful views to the fell landscape. The distance covered today is ca. 30-50 km. On the way you will stop for a delicious picnic lunch. After arrival to the wilderness cabin in the afternoon you will take care of your dogs, heat the sauna and prepare the dinner with your guide.
Day 7 After breakfast in the cabin you will start the safari back to the husky kennel where you will arrive in the afternoon. On the way you stop for a picnic lunch. The distance covered today is ca. 30-50 km. After returning to the kennel you will help with the dogs and say good-bye to your charming friends. A short transfer to the neaby Särkijärvi Holiday village, where you will overnight in cozy cabins with shower/wc - two persons per cabin. After a relaxing sauna you will enjoy the farewell dinner in restaurant.
