NEW YEAR AT SÄRKIJÄRVEN MAJAT: FROM DECEMBER 28, 2011 TO JANUARY 2, 2012
Dec. 28 Arrival at Kittilä, guided transportation to Särkijärvi, check-in, welcome drink and information, dinner
Dec. 29 Breakfast, delivery of warm outdoor clothing
Short transfer to a husky kennel
3 hours husky program: approximately 15 km safari – 2 persons per dog team – after the safari introduction to the farm and coffee in a Lappish tent. Return back to Särkijärvi
Lunch in restaurant
In the afternoon making lanterns of ice, winter fishing and ice-fishing.

Dec. 30 Breakfast
Building of snow in two groups: half of the group builds a snow bar with the guide by the lake Särkijärvi, and the other half does the same thing in Sweden by Muonioriver (a short transfer in minibus). During the day making of drink glasses of ice for the next day. The activity is a competition between the teams, but not too serious. Everyone gets a prize and the groups are photographed around the bar. During the day outdoor picnic lunch is served.

Dec. 31 Breakfast
Snowshoe excursion, picnic lunch by open fire in a shelter, duration approximately 3 hours. The trail is 3 km per direction, in total 6 km. The trail is easy.
Free afternoon – possibility to go ice-fishing, ski or make another snow shoe excursion on your own.
New Year’s Eve dinner in restaurant. After dinner, it is time to learn some Finnish traditions, melting tin and forecasting the future from the tin. By midnight fireworks and a glass of sparkling wine. After having welcomed the new year, we make a trip to Sweden (where is different time zone). There we release some lanterns to the air, have a glass of sparkling wine and fire sausages by open fire. Transfer back to Särkijärvi. Those who wish to continue the evening in a pub, may do so at Harriniva. Return back to Särkijärvi by taxi (the cost of the taxi transfer is not included in the program).
Jan. 1 The New Year starts with a brunch which is followed by a visit to a reindeer farm in Torassieppi. Tranfer from Särkijärvi to the reindeer farm is done in a sled pulled by a snowmobile, this is a nice opportunity to be able to observe the winter landscapes. In Torassieppi, there is an old Lappish reindeer farm, and the owner tells us about reindeer husbandry. We will make a 3 km long safari with reindeer and finish the visit with a traditional Lappish soup served in a “kota”. Return to Särkijärvi in the sled.
Free time before the farewell dinner which is served in a restaurant.
