Ski touring, heli-skiing, off-piste skiing - a unique paradise for ski lovers
This region offers wonderful opportunities for skiers of all levels and styles. In Finland, in Muonio-Enontekiö area, we have hundreds of kilometers of well maintained ski tracks. In Kilpisjärvi area there are not that much of ski tracks, but it offers unique opportunities for trekking style skiing, or even for randonnées, or telemark excursions. In Norway, the powder snow of Lyngen Alps is well known among lovers of free ride. Abisko national park in Kiruna, Sweden is a fantastic option for ski touring and off-piste skiing.
Cross country skiing is an ideal sport to get fit and enjoy the scenery in ecological way. Skiing was the traditional way of getting around in Lapland, before roads where constructed and cars came.
Ski season starts already at the end of October in Finland, and lasts until the beginning of May. There are illuminated ski tracks in Muonio and in Enontekiö, also in Kautokeino and Alta.
Especially in the spring time in April, you can enjoy skiing late in the evening. And there is still lot of snow! Be sure to take good sun glasses and sun cream to your spring time excursions, because the sun light is very strong and burning at this time of the year.
In Finland there are many shelters and huts along the ski paths, where you can make fire, eat snack and rest comfortably. We organize guided skiing trips in Finland, Sweden and Norway that take several days. Short day trips are available as well.
For those who enjoy alpine skiing, there is Hetta Hiihtomaa’s ski slopes and lifts. Free riding trips are organized upon request in Kilpisjärvi and Lyngen area.
