North-Calotte area offers for hikers and trekkers the most beautiful landscapes, and numerous tracks of varying difficulty
In Finland the Hetta-Pallas hiking trail, 55km, is very popular among Finnish hikers due to it’s beauty. The trail is located in the Pallas-Yllästunturi national park, in its Northern Part, and can be accessed from several starting points. There are several huts along the path. The huts are open to every hiker and you can book a bed from some of them in advance. Day trips or 3-4 days journeys are all good alternatives in the national park.
The Finnish flat-top mountain and forest trails offer a different experience for those who are used to more mountainous landscapes. They are easy to access and physically less demanding than the steep mountains in Norway.
In Sweden, the Abisko national park offers splendid trails, the most popular one is the King’s Trail that leads from Abisko to Kebnekaise.
Those who look for more challenges, Lyngen Alps, is a recommended destination. You can try glacier hiking, climbing or just hiking on the trails. Another spot you should consider as a place wort visiting is the Jökelfjord and its magnificent glacier Øksfjordjøkelen.

You can access the hiking trails freely. There are also some free services available, such as shelters, fire places and wilderness huts. In all three countries there are also wilderness huts that must be pre-booked.
There may be restrictions related to camping, for example in national parks it is not allowed to set up a tent and make a fire everywhere. Read more about rules regulating hiking in Finland and Sweden:

Everyone has a free access to our beautiful and untouched nature. Because of the arctic location of the area in question, the nature is very vulnerable and the growing season very short. Therefore we ask you to respect the marked trails and not to leave rubbish to the nature.
